DANIA SHAKOOR, MS

Counselor

Dania Shakoor is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate in the state of Texas and a National Certified Counselor, under the supervision of Rochelle Ritzi, Ph. D, LPC-S. Dania earned her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of North Texas where she received training counseling children, preadolescents, adolescents, adults, groups, couples, and families. She has also received training in working with children using play and activity therapy to help them with behavioral and emotional struggles, self-esteem, peer pressure/stressors, and more. Dania completed her internship at Hope’s Door New Beginning Center, where she provided individual and group therapy to women experiencing domestic violence, hostile divorces and other life changes. Dania’s counseling experience also includes working with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, family/relationship issues, childhood trauma, self-esteem issues, and suicidality. Dania discovered her passion for helping, through her previous experiences serving as a chaplain at Baylor University Medical Center, supporting patients and their families through illness, loss, end of life decision making, and grief. 

 

Dania believes that through insight, self-awareness, and acceptance, individuals can begin to make changes in their lives and relationships. Dania aims to create a space of acceptance and empathy, so that clients can explore their thoughts and feelings, authentically, and begin to identify their unique needs, values, and identities.

 

Dania is also interested in the unique struggles that women, people of color, and racial, cultural, religious, and sexual minorities face. She is conscientious of how confusing and conflicting identities can seem, and is passionate about facilitating awareness and acceptance in individuals.

 

In her free time, Dania enjoys baking, cafe-hopping with her husband, playing board games, and reading.
