CATE ROSSIO, MS

Counselor

Cate Rossio is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate in the state of Texas, under the supervision of Josh Hawkins, M.S., LPC-S. Cate earned her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at UNT Dallas. She has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, families, and groups with a variety of presenting concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, ADHD, bullying, and various other major life stressors. Cate is trained in working with children using play therapy and activity therapy. She is also trained in using sandtray therapy with individuals of all ages. Cate completed her internship at Momentous Institute where she provided group, family, and individual counseling to clients as young as three years old, as well as co-led early childhood groups, which were designed to teach children the skills needed to process big emotions to improve their behavior at home and at school. Furthermore, Cate has provided group counseling services in a hospital setting to preadolescents and adolescents who were struggling with life stressors such as depression, self-injury, and suicidality.

Cate believes that individuals have within themselves the capacity for growth through broadening their perception of their resources and abilities. Her theory of counseling is solution-focused, which is based on the premise that solutions are found when we shift our perception from being problem-oriented to solution-oriented. Cate believes in providing her clients a safe and supportive environment to explore and begin to make these meaningful changes.

Although not directly related to counseling, Cate also earned a Master's in Biomedical Science and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with a minor in Neuroscience before changing career paths into the therapy room. Her education in the biomedical and neurosciences aids in her ability to think critically and problem-solve alongside her clients.

Outside of counseling, Cate enjoys building dollhouses, making miniatures, crochet, reading, and spending time with her husband and two dogs.
