Johanna brings nearly a decade of experience in education and mental health to her counseling work. She has served as a school counselor, teacher, and department head, as well as a research intern with a focus on early childhood development and mental health interventions. At UNT she was a part of the Bilingual & Trauma-Informed Integrated Care (BTIIC) project, where she received advanced training in trauma-informed mental health services and integrated care models.
Johanna has worked with a diverse range of clients, including children, adolescents, and adults, addressing a variety of counseling goals such as managing anxiety and depression, navigating life transitions, building emotional regulation skills, healing from trauma, navigating relationships, and improving self-esteem. Johanna is passionate about supporting individuals through developmental transitions, identity formation, and emotional growth.
Drawing from a Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, while also emphasizing the importance of the therapeutic relationship, Johanna’s approach is grounded in the belief that all people are capable of growth when given a safe and supportive space. She emphasizes trust, empathy, and a strengths-based focus to collaborate closely with clients in identifying goals, nurturing resilience, and developing tools that empower lasting change. She values the therapeutic relationship as central to the healing process and strives to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, valued, and supported in pursuing meaningful growth.
When she’s not working directly with clients, Johanna is passionate about advocacy, mental health education, and bridging access to care. Outside of work, she enjoys being in nature, spending time with loved ones, and savoring life’s everyday routines and meaningful moments. She values balance and authenticity in her own life and brings that same presence into her work with clients. Johanna believes in the power of connection, and she is honored to walk alongside clients as they grow, heal, and rediscover their inner strengths.
